Born in Nara in 1984.

After earning a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Tsukuba, he turned to ceramics, training at the Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute and the Ishikawa Prefectural Kutani Ware Technical Training Institute. He is now a technical specialist and part-time lecturer at Kanazawa College of Art. Drawing on a scientific perspective, he formulates original clays and glazes to create works inspired by life phenomena—exploring cellular structures and organic forms at the intersection of craft and contemporary art.

1984年奈良県生まれ。

筑波大学大学院で分子生物学を専攻し、博士（理学）取得後に陶芸作家へ転向。信楽窯業技術試験場と石川県立九谷焼技術研修所で技術を学び、現在は金沢美術工芸大学で技術専門員・非常勤講師を務める。

科学的視点をもとに独自の釉薬や土を調合し、生命現象をモチーフとした作品を制作。細胞構造などの有機的な形態をテーマに、工芸と現代アートの交差点を探求している。

What inspired you to pursue craft (or art)?
工芸（またはアート）に携わるようになったきっかけは？

When I touch clay, forms emerge as naturally as breathing. In that moment, I feel my way of life reflected in the process. Before I realized it, I naturally thought, “I will dedicate my life to ceramics.” That realization became my true origin.

自分の人生を振り返ったときに、「陶芸を一生の仕事にしよう」と自然に思えたことが大きなきっかけです。土に触れ、自身の手で形が生まれていく過程に、自分の生き方そのものを重ねられると感じました。

影響を受けた人物や伝統的な技法はありますか？

特定の人物というよりも、家庭の中に陶芸が当たり前に存在していたことが大きな影響です。日常の風景に工芸があったことが、今の活動の土台になっています。

技法としては、滋賀県・信楽で基礎を学び、石川県で九谷焼の上絵付などを習得しました。これらを自分なりにハイブリッドさせ、作品に昇華しています。

Through KANABI KOGEI+, what new expressions or techniques would you like to explore?
KANABI KOGEI+を通じて、どのような新しい表現や技法に挑みたいですか？

I want to share my works with a wider audience. Beyond the traditional boundaries of ceramics, KANABI KOGEI+ gives me the opportunity to experiment with new ways of presenting and connecting my works with people across the world.

より多くの人に作品を届けたいと考えています。伝統的な陶芸や工芸の枠を超え、KANABI KOGEI+という場を通じて、新しい見せ方や出会い方を模索したい。作品が人と人をつなぐ媒介となり、リレーショナルアートのように広がっていくことを目指しています。

Through KANABI KOGEI+, what values do you wish to deliver to society and to the next generation?
KANABI KOGEI+を通じて、どのような価値を社会に、そして次の世代に届けたいですか？

Ceramics are not just vessels—they are companions to daily life and personal memory. Through KANABI KOGEI+, I want to bring this “value of enriching everyday life” to society. For the next generation, I hope to convey that craft holds the power to shape the future.

陶芸は、ただの器ではなく、使う人の日常や記憶に寄り添う存在だと思います。KANABI KOGEI+を通じて「暮らしを豊かにする価値」を社会に届けたい。そして次の世代には、工芸が未来を形づくる力を持つことを伝えていきたいと考えています。
